Lionel Messi Names His Greatest Footballer Of All Time

Inter Miami forward, Lionel Messi has described the late Diego Maradona as the greatest footballer the world has ever seen, saying the Argentine legend’s influence went far beyond his time on the pitch.

In an interview with NBC Sports, the Inter Miami star spoke with deep admiration for Maradona, calling him “the greatest idol” and a figure who continues to inspire generations of players and fans.

“For us, Maradona was the greatest idol and a source of admiration for everything he represented,” Messi said. “Even though I was little and did not see much of him play live, Diego transcended everything.”

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner also compared Maradona’s legacy in football and Michael Jordan’s dominance in basketball, saying both redefined their sports through talent and personality.

“Speaking of another sport, I think it was the same with Jordan,” Messi said. “I also admire tennis players like Federer, Rafa, and Djokovic.”

Recall that the late Maradona led the Albiceleste to World Cup glory in 1986. Lionel Messi followed in his footsteps by lifting the same trophy in 2022.
