The Lagos Golden Hearts Lions Club has inaugurated its second Club President, Lion Godfrey Ovie Gimoh MJF NLCF, who pledged a strong commitment to service and community support.
At the investiture ceremony, held before a gathering of dignitaries, fellow Lions, and supporters, Gimoh expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him. He acknowledged the contributions of the club’s immediate past president, Lion Chief Oyin Frances Zarat Adeogbite NLCF, and the charter members, stating, “Your dedication, commitment, and hard work have laid a strong foundation upon which we will continue to build.”
He outlined the achievements of the club, highlighting initiatives such as an eye screening outreach in September 2024, where 130 free reading glasses were distributed, and a N1m medical bill payment for paediatric cancer patients at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in October 2024. Additionally, the club provided meals to 350 people in December 2024 and 700 homeless individuals in January 2025.
Gimoh identified three core areas of focus for the 2024-2025 Lions service year: paediatric cancer awareness, hunger relief, and environmental sustainability. He described a visit to LASUTH’s paediatric cancer ward as an eye-opener to the financial struggles of many patients. He also emphasised the rising cost of food and the impact of environmental degradation, warning that “if we don’t begin to do something about our environment, Lagos could be submerged in the Atlantic Ocean before 2060.”
He announced a fundraising target of N10 million to support the club’s upcoming projects: “This investiture ceremony is not just a gathering to wine and dine; it is also a crucial fundraising event. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a tangible difference,” Gimoh said.
He expressed confidence in the dedication of club members and the support of the community. He extended gratitude to attendees and supporters, including his wife and daughter, saying, “Let us work together, hand in hand, to build a brighter and prosperous future for the poor and vulnerable in our communities. Let us continue to live up to the Lions motto: ‘We Serve.’”
