Nigerian rapper Keshinro Ololade, popularly known as Lil Kesh, has broken his silence after surviving a violent armed robbery attempt in Lagos.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, left the artiste with stab wounds to his neck and ear after unknown assailants attempted to snatch his jewellery, including a necklace.
Graphic images of his injuries quickly went viral online, sparking concern among his fans. Lil Kesh was rushed to a hospital where doctors stitched his wounds and stabilised him.
On Thursday, the 30-year-old artiste took to his Instagram story to reassure his followers. Describing the attack as a sudden challenge, he wrote: “Life threw me a curveball, but I’m safe, healing, and blessed to be here. Grateful for the love, support and prayers.
Lil Kesh, who rose to fame at age 19 with his 2014 hit single Shoki while signed to Olamide’s YBNL record label, has been candid about the pressures of early success.
In May, he revealed that stardom at a young age robbed him of crucial life experiences. “I blew at a very tender age. I was 19 when I got signed. I just turned 20 when I had Shoki, I was deprived of a lot of things, a lot of life experiences I could have learnt before being put into that position,” he said at the time.
While police are yet to release an official statement on the Lagos robbery, fans and fellow artistes have continued to send messages of support to the rapper as he recovers.
