LG Polls: Late voting begins in Nasarawa local council hours behind schedule

Late voting finally commenced in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State in Saturday’s Chairmanship and Councillorship polls, several hours behind schedule.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the delay was caused by the late delivery of election materials to the polling units.

Voting began at about 2pm against the scheduled 8am, in polling units where materials were provided by the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission.

NAN reported that voting was ongoing at the Polling Units located at Agwan Dalhatu, Agwan Mallam Hassan, and Makera, all in the Central Ward.

Some voters, who waited for materials to be delivered at the unit, expressed relief that the process eventually commenced.

They called for peaceful and speedy completion of the process before nightfall to avoid hoodlums taking cover under the dark to cause violence.

A voter, Yusuf Abdullahi, said: “We have waited since morning and some have even given up, fearing that the exercise might no longer take place.

“But we thank Allah, the election has finally commenced and we hope it will go on smoothly.”

The exercise was, however, yet to start in other polling units in the LGA due to the absence of electoral materials and officials.
