LG Elections: APC Clinches 24 Councils, Councillors Seats In Katsina

KATSINA: The All Progressive Congress (APC) party in Katsina state won 24 of the 34 local government chairmanship seat elections in the state’s February 15 polls.

Similarly, the ruling party APC has won all the councillorship seats in the said council areas.

Lawal Alhassan Faskari, the commission’s chairman disclosed this while briefing newsmen at the headquarters of the state independent electoral commission in Katsina on Sunday.

Faskari said the ruling party won the 24 local government chairmanship and all the councillorship seats in the state, adding that other council elections results were being awaited.

The councils are Bakori, Batagarawa, Bauer, Bindawa, Danja, Danmusa, Dutsinma, Faskari, Ingawa, Jibia and Kaita local government areas.

The rest are Kankara, Kurfi, Kusada, Mai’adua, Malumfashi, Mashi, Matazu, Musawa, Safana, Sandamu, Zango and Kafur LGAs.

Other LGA results being awaited include, Batsari, Charanchi, Dandume, Daura, Dutsinma, Kankia, Katsina, Mani and Sabuwa.

The commission chairman who noted that, the elections were free and fair attributed the success of the exercise to the support and cooperation of the electorates and stakeholders.

“Their contributions were instrumental in ensuring the smooth and credible conduct of the elections across the 34 LOcal Government Areas”.

He also acknowledged the dedication of the ad-hoc staff who conducted the election efficiently and within the stipulated time frame, while commending the members and management staff of the commission for their hard work and professionalism.

“Our gratitude extends to the Chairmen of the various State Independent Electoral Commissions, election observers and monitors who played a vital role in supporting this important exercise”, he concluded.
