“Let me speak!” Natasha confronts Akpiabo in fresh Senate plenary drama

There was mild tension in the Senate on Tuesday as Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan confronted Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary.

The drama started when Natasha raised her hand, insisting on contributing to a sensitive discussion on rape. However, Akpabio appeared reluctant to grant her the floor, prompting her to raise her voice and say, “Let me speak, I’m a woman!”

She argued that the matter directly affected her as a woman and that her perspective deserved to be heard. The chamber became uneasy as murmurs spread among lawmakers.

Before the situation could escalate, Senator Adams Oshiomhole quickly stepped in, citing the Senate’s Rule of Order. He reminded the chamber that the issue had already been concluded and should not be reopened, effectively halting Natasha’s attempt to speak.

This is not the first time the pair have clashed over floor privileges and the opportunity to speak during plenary sessions, with previous incidents seeing Natasha challenge Akpabio for what she described as being sidelined in important debates.

Nigerians on social media are already buzzing over the incident. While some praised Natasha for standing her ground and defending women’s voices in politics, others argued that Oshiomhole only did his job by ensuring order in the chamber.

The heated moment once again highlights the tension and power dynamics within Nigeria’s 10th Senate, where strong personalities continue to clash over leadership and representation.
