Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Lekan Fatodu, has once again fulfilled his promise to the sports community by enhancing infrastructure and expanding opportunities for athletes in Lagos.
Lagos is home to many talented individuals, but young athletes have long struggled due to a lack of clear pathways for growth. However, with Lekan Fatodu’s diplomatic skills, sports will no longer be just a side project but an integral part of Lagos State’s development plan.
Fatodu has taken two significant steps in advancing sports development by improving athlete performance and strengthening community participation. This is evident in the newly reconstructed Olympic-size swimming pool and upgraded facilities at Rowe Park Sports Centre in Yaba, as well as the newly built boxing gym at Teslim Balogun Stadium.
This transformation was made possible through Governor Sanwo-Olu’s partnership with the private sector and marks a new chapter for aquatic sports in Lagos. It provides athletes with world-class training infrastructure while offering the community a space that promotes excellence and active living. This first-class training environment, further cementing Lagos as a breeding ground for future champions.
Fatodu’s strategic approach to grassroots sports development is making a significant impact, aligning with the broader vision for Lagos, a city where every athlete, whether on land, in water, or in the ring, has access to top-quality facilities and the right opportunities to succeed.
