Leave worthy legacies for coming generations, UNILORIN VC charges Muslim community



Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Egbewole, (SAN), Monday charged the University of Ilorin Muslim community to sustain the good legacies left behind by the founding fathers of the university and ensure they bequeath worthy legacies to coming generations.

Egbewole spoke at a special lecture and award ceremony organised by the Muslim community to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the university held at its main campus.

Recalling with nostalgia the positive impacts of the past leaders of the university Muslim community to the moral, academic and spiritual growth of the university, Egbewole said: “For us at the university of Ilorin Muslim community, it’s been 50th years of iman (faith), it’s been 50 years of achievements, 50th years  of impactful leadership in this great university. 

“What do we intend to leave as legacy to the University’s next generations. This is what I  believe the university Muslim community must work and charged itself with,” he said.

Also speaking, former Chief Imam of the University of Ilorin Central Mosque, Emeritus professor Abdulrasheed Ajani Raji, recalled  how the late 9th Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Sulkanaini Gambari Ayelabowo 1, gave his approval for the establishment of the Unilorin muslim community’s  central jumaat Mosque which according to him ,observed its first jumaat prayer on October, 6th 1976, at the mini campus.

In his speech, chairman, Unilorin Muslim community, Professor Mudathir Yusuf, reflected on the theme of the programme:”Celebrating 50 Years of Academic Excellence: The Role of Islamic Values in Shaping the Unilorin Community,” saying it was an opportunity for the community to reappraise its leadership roles.
