ABUJA – The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has renewed its call for the immediate release of Leah Sharibu, who has remained in captivity for over seven years after being abducted by Boko Haram insurgents on February 19, 2018.
CAN in a statement signed by
Archbishop Daniel Okoh
President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) stands firmly with Leah’s family and all Nigerians who share the pain of her continued absence. Leah’s unwavering faith and bravery in the face of unimaginable adversity shine as a symbol of hope and resilience for the nation.
Her prolonged captivity highlights the persistent insecurity plaguing Nigeria and underscores the urgent need to safeguard the fundamental right to freedom of religion.
CAN calls on the Federal Government to intensify efforts to secure Leah’s freedom and that of all others still in captivity. “No sacrifice is too great to bring our daughter home,” CAN declares.
CAN urges all Nigerians, particularly the Christian community, to unite in prayer and action for Leah’s safe return and lasting peace in the country. “Let us transcend denominational lines and stand as one body to demand justice and freedom,” the statement reads.
CAN charges the government, security agencies, and all stakeholders to take decisive steps toward ending the scourge of violence and restoring safety across the nation.
The Association reaffirms its commitment to speaking for the voiceless and championing peace and unity in Nigeria.
“We Will Not Give Up”
CAN remains hopeful that Leah will soon reunite with her family and assures them of its unwavering support. “May God grant us the strength and wisdom to see this through,” the statement concludes.
