Lazio have confirmed that Nigerian midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has returned to individual training as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury that has kept him out since September.
Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, 24, who joined Lazio permanently from Turkish side Hatayspor in the summer, has missed the club’s last three Serie A matches. His return to light training is a welcome development for the club and Nigeria’s national team as they prepare for a busy run of fixtures.
In an official update released on Friday, Lazio shared details of the medical assessments carried out by Professor Ivo Pulcini, Professor Fabio Rodia and club doctor Italo Leo.
“Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Nicolò Rovella and Valentin Castellanos carried out specific differentiated work,” the club announced.
Lazio noted that Dele-Bashiru’s recovery is progressing well and that the medical staff closely monitors his rehabilitation.
While players such as Matteo Cancellieri are still undergoing water-based therapy, the Nigerian midfielder has moved on to on-pitch exercises, suggesting he is edging closer to full fitness.
The update offers a timely boost for manager Maurizio Sarri, whose team has struggled for consistency this season. Lazio currently sit mid-table, and Dele-Bashiru’s pace, strength and box-to-box presence could be vital in stabilising their midfield.
Reports in Italy suggest that Sunday’s clash with Juventus will come too soon for the Super Eagles midfielder, but there is optimism he could return in early November, either for the Coppa Italia tie against Pisa or the league game against Cagliari.
Before his injury, Dele-Bashiru made four Serie A appearances and showed flashes of promise. His return will also please Nigeria coach Eric Chelle, who views the player as a key part of his midfield plans for upcoming international fixtures.
