“Languishing” – Chelsea legend Mikel Obi predicts Manchester United’s position at the end of the Premier League season

Manchester United have picked just seven points from six games in the Premier League…

Former Super Eagles midfielder Mikel Obi  has predicted that Manchester United will finish the Premier League campaign in 13th or 14th place, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Red Devils have endured a difficult start to the cmpaign under the tutelage of coach Ruben Amorim. They have won two, drawn one, and lost three games.

The last loss came last weekend, when they fell to a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Brentford at the G-Tech Community Stadium.

Following that loss, Manchester United now sit 14th on the Premier League table, eight points behind league leaders Liverpool, who have 15 points.

Meanwhile former Super Eagles star Mikel, who spent most of his career in the Premier League with Chelsea, doesn’t think that the Red Devils’ fortunes will improve soon.

He believes that they lack quality in important areas, and Ruben Amorim’s tactics have not filtered in well with the players.

“I have no idea about what is going on with Manchester United’s recruitment process, it’s in absolute shambles,” Mikel said on the Obi One Podcast.

“I’ve backed Ruben Amorim since he came in, I thought he’s a very good manager. I watched him at Sporting, and the way they played was brilliant.

“But the players are Manchester qUnited are not good enough. Harry Maguire, De Ligt, and the others were all over the place against Brentford.

“Amorim moved Maguire to the right and De Ligt to the left, trying to find a system that works, but it doesn’t work. They are too slow, they can’t run.

“Then, you have a Fernandes and a Casemiro as your two holding midfielders. You can’t win the league with those two, you will finish 13th or 14th with players like that.

“That’s Manchester United’s position right now, they will be languishing at the back of the table.

“Mbeumo, at some point, was playing right wing-back, while Mason Mount was playing left wing-back. They are all over the place,” Mikel concluded.

Will Things Improve At Manchester United?

As it stands, it doesn’t look like things will improve at Manchester United, with Ruben Amorim still in charge.

The players don’t look like they are performing at the top of their game, the club can’t splash big money on players like their competitors, and Amorim does not want to tweak his setup.

With the pressure mounting on the Portuguese tactician, there is a good chance that he will get sacked if Manchester continue to lose games.

If things don’t improve soon, people like Mikel Obi will keep throwing Manchester United under the bus.
