Lampada FC of Oko have emerged the champions of the inaugural 2025 Anambra State Football League, organised by the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) and sponsored by Akubudike Energy Ltd.
The team secured their victory with a 3-2 win on penalties against Rangels FA of Achina after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Chijioke Mba scored for Rangels FA in the 5th minute, while Sunday Nwachukwu equalized for Lampada FC five minutes before full time, leading to the penalty shootout.
Lampada FC received a cash prize of N2 million, while Rangels FA earned N1 million. Game Changers FC, who defeated Bonfa FA in the third-place match with a late goal by Pele Chiemerie, took home N500,000, and Bonfa FA received N200,000 as a consolation prize.
Individual awards went to Nelson Nwachukwu of Lampada FC as Most Valuable Player, Joseph Okeke of Rangels FA as Best Goalkeeper, and Chikwado Oramalu of Game Changers FC as the Highest Goal Scorer.
Chief Jim Martins Nwabueze, MD/CEO of Akubudike Energy Ltd, commended the competition for discovering local football talents and pledged continued support for future editions.
He praised ANSFA for the smooth organisation of the league.
Representing the deputy governor of Anambra state, Dr. Onyekachi Ibezim, Barr. Odira Ezeh applauded the initiative for engaging the youth through football and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to creating opportunities for human capital development.
The Chairman of ANSFA, Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi, expressed gratitude to Chief Nwabueze for sponsoring the competition and pledged to promote more footballing activities in the state.
Chief Iloenyosi eulogised the governor of Anambra state, Prof.Charles Soludo and his deputy for providing an enabling environment for the growth of the round leather game.
Vice-Chairman Chief Sir Victor Aniekwena also highlighted the commitment of the ANSFA board to advancing football in the state.
Other dignitaries, including Hon. Cyril Ibeabuchi, High Chief Emeka Nwosu, Mr. Emmanuel Emenogu, and Mrs. Cordelia Akanna, commended the efforts of Akubudike Energy Ltd and ANSFA.
A special award was presented to Chief Jim Nwabueze by the ANSFA Board during the grand finale.
