Lagos To Deliver 10,000 Capacity NYSC Permanent Orientation Agbowa Camp In 12 Months – Independent Newspaper Nigeria


Following inspection of ongoing construction works at the Lagos State Permanent Orientation Camp of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Agbowa area of the state, the contractor handling the project has assured that the ultra modern camp will be delivered in 12 months.

Recall that the acquisition of a land measuring 52.13 acres (21,098) along Igando  LASU- Isheri Expressway Lagos in 1983 by the Lagos State government on behalf of the federal government for the camp became a subject of disputes between the State and others on behalf of the Baku Onimaba family.

The completion of the Permanent Orientation Camp will mark a significant milestone for both the state and the scheme that had been operating at the temporary camp in Iyana-Ipaja.

The inspection by the high powered delegation followed a pronouncement of the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwoolu, at the NYSC Lagos Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja, last year, and a pledge of 5 billion Naira towards the construction of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ikorodu, the State Government.

The level of work was ascertained during a visit by the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende.

He was accompanied by Architect Ebenezer of the Ministry of Works Lagos State with his team, and the NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs. Christiana Salmwang, conducted a collaborative inspection exercise at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp site in Agbowa.

The visit was intended to evaluate the progress of the ongoing construction works at the permanent orientation camp and to make sure that the development is in accordance with approved briefs and standards.

The team expressed their satisfaction at the start of Phase 1 of the project.tThe completed foundation works for NCCF, NACC, and MCAN (Muslim Corpers Association of Nigeria) buildings are some of the key highlights of the progress made so far.

It is worth noting that the permanent orientation site project is ongoing on an expansive 10,090 hectare parcel of land dedicated to hosting approximately 10,000 corps members.

Female hostels and four male hostels, each designed to contribute to the overall 10,000 capacity accommodation target of the camp as well as two units of three-bedroom flats, intended to serve as guest chalets and official residence for the State Coordinator, have reached the lintel level, indicating swift progress in construction.

Ogunlende, officially handed over the project site to the contractor, Stranbic Constructions.

The Commissioner thanked the contractors for their professionalism, dedication, and impressive pace of work in his remarks.

He stressed that the project’s quality and safety must not be compromised because the facility is expected to house thousands of Nigerian youths.

After a comprehensive and satisfactory tour of the site, the contractors pledged to complete and hand over the entire project within the next 12 months.

To guarantee consistent monitoring and compliance with standards, the Ministry of Works will conduct monthly inspections until the project is finished.

The inspection team expresses its profound gratitude to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his inspirational leadership, steadfast determination, and devotion to youth development.

This milestone project would not have gained such momentum without his strategic oversight and prioritization of youth-centered infrastructure.
