An Ikeja Lagos Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has sentenced a 38-year-old security guard, Dolapo Akinlabi, to 10-year imprisonment for raping a 20-year-old girl (name withheld).

Akinlabi was convicted and sentenced on three counts charges by Justice Rahman Oshodi.

Akinlabi, who works as a security guard at Unity Estate in Iju-Ishaga, Agege, had on September 13, 2019, at about 11:16 p.m. according to the victim stopped her as she was returning from a church vigil.

Being the only guard on duty that night, he threatened her with a cutlass and raped her multiple times, and twice by penetrating her vagina.

He also raped her anally and before releasing her in the morning, he forced her to swear to an oath not to tell anybody about the incident.

The defendant had pleaded not guilty to the charge when he was initially arraigned in September 2019.

He was re- arraigned on March 3, 2019, and he pleaded guilty after opting for a plea bargain.
