The Lagos state Police command has successfully arrested Jude Onouha, a 46-year-old man identified as the kingpin of a notorious criminal gang specialising in the vandalism of exotic vehicles.

The gang, which used a modified car jack to impersonate a firearm, disguised as security operatives to gain access to residential estates.

According to a statement by the command’s deputy spokesperson, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, Onouha’s gang would wear fake security uniforms and use a modified Mercedes-Benz car jack, which was crafted to look like a gun.

“They would then deceive estate security personnel by claiming to be conducting security investigations. Once inside, they targeted high-end vehicles, including Toyota Hilux, Toyota Highlander, Lexus 650, and Mercedes-Benz SUVs.

“The gang would systematically vandalize the vehicles, stealing expensive components such as brain boxes, wiring systems, tapping glasses, side mirrors, and control devices,” he said.

Meanwhile, the arrested kingpin has confessed to the crime and is assisting detectives with the ongoing investigation.

The police have recovered the Mercedes-Benz car jack and a face cap with the inscription “Special Force” from the suspect.

The Commissioner of Police, CP, Olohundare Jimoh, has advised residents and estate management to be extremely vigilant.

He urged them to collaborate closely with their Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to verify the authenticity of any purported security personnel before granting them entry into their estates.

The police assured the public that through vigilance and cooperation, the safety and security of all communities in Lagos will be strengthened.

Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining members of the gang and their accomplices.
