The Magistrate Court of Lagos state, Ebute-Metta Magisterial District, has ordered the remand of a leader of the National Union Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos Island, Mr. Shamusideen Oladiti, a 55-year-old man, on a three-count charge that includes manslaughter, conspiracy, and grievous harm.
The defendant was arraigned Tuesday, and will remain in prison custody pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Prosecutor, SP Anthony Iyeye, detailed the charges, which stems from two separate violent incidents allegedly occurring on Lagos Island.
The most serious charge, Count I, alleges that Mr. Oladiti unlawfully beat one Imam Ramon with fist blows on August 27, 2025, at Lewis Street, Lagos Island. The victim was rushed to the Lagos Island General Hospital, Marina, but later died. This offense is punishable under Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state, 2015.
The defendant also faces two additional charges related to a subsequent incident on September 17, 2025: Count II charges Mr. Oladiti and “others at large” with conspiracy to commit a felony, specifically grievous harm.
Count III alleges that Mr. Oladiti unlawfully beat a second victim, Omale Samuel, with fist blows, resulting in grievous harm.
Mr. Oladiti’s plea was not taken, which is standard procedure in a Magistrate Court for capital offenses that fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
