The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command, has confirmed a tragic vehicular crash on the Ikorodu–Shagamu road that resulted in the death of six people and left three others injured.
The fatal incident occurred late on over the weekend at approximately 11:48 p.m., near the Fire Service Station at Odogiyan.
The crash involved a yellow TVS tricycle and a white FAW commercial truck.
According to the State Public Education Officer (SPEO) Superintendent Route Commander (SRC), Oluwadamilola Jayeola, initial investigations strongly indicate that over speeding was the primary cause.
All nine passengers in the vehicles were affected.
The FRSC rescue team swiftly evacuated the three injured victims to Ikorodu General Hospital, where the deceased were also deposited. The vehicles have been handed over to the Sagamu Road Police Station for further processing.
Following the tragedy, FRSC commanders emphasised that such crashes are largely preventable.
Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde G. Hamzat, extended condolences to the affected families and urged motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed reinforced this message, reminding the public that road safety is a shared duty. He specifically called on commercial drivers particularly tricycle and truck operators to prioritize safety over haste.
He also empowered passengers to speak up when riding in unsafe vehicles.
“Overspeeding does not save time; it only ends lives. Let us choose safety every time we get behind the wheel,” the Corps Marshal urged, as the FRSC restated its commitment to rigorous enforcement and public education to improve road safety across Lagos.
