The Odiolowo-Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has been thrown into mourning following the death of its only elected female councillor, Honourable Zainab Adeshewa Shotayo.

Shotayo, who represented Ward C3 and served as Chief Whip of the 6th Legislative Arm, reportedly passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025, after a brief illness. She was just 29 years old.

Her death comes barely three weeks after she was inaugurated into office, making her one of the youngest councillors in Lagos State.

In a condolence message, the Council Chairman, Hon. Seyi Jakande, described Shotayo as a beacon of hope and a trailblazer for young women in politics.

“Hon. Zainab was not only the youngest member of our council but also an exemplary leader who inspired many through her resilience and dedication to service,” Jakande said.

“Her contributions as Chief Whip and her commitment to improving the lives of her constituents will be remembered for years to come. This is a profound loss for our community.”

The council secretariat in Ilupeju has since been in a somber mood, with colleagues and residents expressing shock over the passing of the young lawmaker.
