A team of senior lawyers, including Femi Falana (SAN), Tayo Oyetibo (SAN), and other prominent lawyers, are currently the Lagos High Court to defend Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mojisola Meranda against a lawsuit filed by her predecessor, Mudashiru Obasa.
The legal team, led by Oyetibo, also includes Olu Daramola (SAN), Muiz Banire (SAN), Abimbola Akeredolu (SAN), Dada Awosika (SAN), Dayo Amokaye (SAN), Mofe Oyetibo (SAN), Olumide Oyewole, and Wunmi Okeremi.
Obasa, the Agege lawmaker, had challenged his removal in court, claiming that 36 lawmakers ousted him from the speaker’s seat on January 13, 2025, while he was out of the country. His case, filed on February 12, 2025, is being handled by Afolabi Fashanu (SAN).
Ahead of the hearing at the Lagos State High Court, 29 lawmakers loyal to Meranda arrived to show their support. Meranda herself was also present as proceedings commenced.
Recall that Obasa stormed the assembly’s complex on Thursday and presided over the plenary with four lawmakers in attendance.
During an interview on Channels Television on Thursday evening, Obasa said Meranda has agreed to resign as the speaker during a peace meeting.
