Lagos government to shut roads, divert traffic on Lekki–Ajah Axis for 8 months

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to partially close and divert traffic along the Lekki–Ajah corridor for eight months to allow for road rehabilitation works.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the project will run from Saturday, November 15, 2025, to Wednesday, July 15, 2026, and will be executed in two phases to minimize traffic disruptions.

Phase 1, covering Lekki 1st Toll Gate to Lekki 2nd Toll Gate, will involve work in seven sections. One lane will be closed at a time while motorists use the other. Traffic toward Lekki/Ajah will have continuous access, while motorists heading from Ajah to Lekki will be diverted to one lane as repairs proceed on the other.

Osiyemi noted that some sections of the road will experience partial closures during the rehabilitation period.

He appealed for patience from motorists and urged them to obey traffic officials and follow the diversion routes.

“These repairs are part of the Lagos State Government’s efforts to improve road quality and ease traffic flow,” the commissioner said.
