Lagos CP warns against disruptive activism

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, has issued a stern warning that the Command will not permit any form of disruptive activism capable of threatening public order in the state.

The caution came after a meeting held with activist Dr Segun Awosanya, Bernard Onigah, and other civil society representatives at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja.

Jimoh emphasised that while activism is a legitimate tool for civic engagement, it must not be deployed in ways that undermine peace and security.

He reiterated that Omoyele Sowore is still wanted by the Lagos State Police Command over actions deemed likely to incite disorder.

The CP advised Sowore to report to any police station in the state rather than attempting to engage the police through social media, which he described as theatrics that fail to address the substantive issues.

Speaking on the halted protest planned for the Third Mainland Bridge, Jimoh defended the Command’s stance, stressing that the bridge is a vital national asset and cannot be subjected to activities that could endanger lives, disrupt movement, or impede economic operations.

During the visit, the Commissioner also commissioned a newly constructed access gate and additional facilities at the Ikeja Divisional Headquarters.

The upgrades are expected to ease movement and enhance operational efficiency within the premises, particularly since the Division and Area F previously relied on a single entry route.

Jimoh commended the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Akinwunmi Oke, for initiating and executing the project, noting that the Command is committed to improving infrastructure that strengthens policing across Lagos State.
