A Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, has ordered the final forfeiture of the sums of $20,000 and CFA 110,000 to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The funds were intercepted by operatives of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) at the Seme Border in Badagry local government area of Lagos state and handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for further investigation.

Justice Dehinde Dipeolu made this forfeiture order following a motion on notice filed by the Lagos zonal directorate 1 of the EFCC, through its counsel, H.U. Kofarnaisa.

The judge had earlier granted an interim forfeiture order and directed its publication in a national newspaper to enable any interested party to show cause why the funds should not be permanently forfeited.

While moving the application for final forfeiture, Kofarnaisa informed the court that the motion was supported by an 18-paragraph affidavit deposed to by Mufassir Jega, an EFCC investigating officer.

She also confirmed that the interim order was published in the Daily Trust newspaper of August 29, 2025, in compliance with the court’s directive.

She submitted that the funds were “reasonably suspected to have been acquired with proceeds of unlawful activities.”

In his ruling, Justice Dipeolu held that the application had merit and accordingly granted the final forfeiture order.
