Lagos cancels work-from-home initiative, orders return to office

The Lagos State government has announced the cancellation of its work-from-home initiative, which was implemented in February 2024 in response to the economic challenges caused by the removal of fuel subsidy.

The directive, issued by the State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, will take effect on March 31, 2025.

The move comes after the implementation of the new minimum wage for public sector workers, which has led the government to call for a full return to office work.

The cancellation is part of ongoing efforts by the state administration to improve the welfare and productivity of its workforce.

A circular issued by the government emphasised the importance of public servants rededicating themselves to their duties to ensure better service delivery.

The circular also urged Accounting Officers to widely circulate the directive to all relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

Public servants are now expected to fully resume their roles in office from March 31, 2025, marking the end of the one-year work-from-home initiative.
