1 week ago 27

The Lagos State House of Assembly has dismissed reports that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) stormed the Assembly complex and sealed the offices of the Speaker and his deputy.

The legislative body clarified that security agents were invited to maintain order and prevent possible security threats.

In a letter dated February 14, 2025, the Assembly management informed security agencies in Lagos of credible intelligence suggesting a plan to forcefully reinstate the impeached Speaker on February 18, 2025.

The Assembly warned that such an attempt could disrupt legislative proceedings and pose a security risk to lawmakers.

The letter, referenced LSHA/FAD/0/7554/323, was signed by the Acting Clerk of the Assembly, Mr. A. T. B. Ottun, and addressed to the DSS Director in Lagos, alongside heads of other security agencies.

Titled “Urgent: Enhanced Security Measures for LSHA Premises,” the letter read in part “I wish to bring to your attention a pressing matter that requires immediate action. The impeached Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly plans to resume office on February 18, 2025, posing a potential security threat to the Assembly and its members.”

To avert any security breach, the Assembly requested an increased deployment of security personnel from February 16, 2025, along with the enforcement of strict access control measures within and around the complex.

The letter concluded by urging security agencies to act swiftly, expressing confidence in their ability to maintain law and order at the Assembly premises.
