“During the operation, security operatives encountered armed resistance from the kidnappers, leading to a fierce gun duel.
“The criminals were forced to abandon their hostages and escape deeper into the forest, while all seven victims were safely rescued,” Ejire-Adeyemi said.
She added, “One of the vigilante members sustained gunshot injuries, but thankfully, he is responding well to treatment.
“We commend the courage and commitment of all personnel involved in this operation.”
Other rescued individuals include Adam Khadijat, 23; Mamud Miriam, 24; Mumini Ahmed, 17; Hamadu Haruna, 44; and Abibat Umaru, 16.
Items recovered from the bandits’ hideout included three motorcycles and nine empty AK-47 magazines.
Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo praised the team, saying, “We will continue targeting criminal hideouts until kidnappers and bandits are brought to justice.”
Ejire-Adeyemi further urged residents, “We call on members of the public to remain vigilant, provide credible information, and support security agencies to ensure the safety of our communities.”
