The Kwara State Hospitals Management Board on Sunday announced that it has secured re-accreditation from the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN), approving seven of its state’s hospital facilities to operate as internship training centers for graduate pharmacists.

The state facilities had lost the accreditation 20 years ago, before the state governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq in 2024, gave his approval and full support to the hospital’s management board which led to the success, a statement by the press secretary of the board, Adamu Usman said on Sunday.

He said no fewer than 7 state hospital pharmacy departments just secured accreditation from the PCN to operate as internship training centers for graduate pharmacists.

The accredited facilities include according to the statement included: General Hospital Patigi, General Hospital Offa, Kwara State University Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, Civil Service Hospital.

Others are Aisha Buhari Mother & Child Hospital, Sobi Specialist Hospital, Ilorin, Children’s Specialist Hospital and Kwara State Essential Drugs Project.

The statement quoted Dr. Abdulraheem Malik, the executive secretary of the board, as saying, “It was a long and tedious process that involved the PCN sending an accreditation team to Kwara state to inspect the proposed facilities. We are very happy we succeeded and Kwara state can resume the training of intern pharmacists from all schools of pharmacy in Nigeria that it lost 2 decades ago.”

He stated that, processing has also commenced to secure accreditations to begin the training of intern nurses and medical laboratory scientists.
