Kwara Government Shuts Eight Hotels In Ilorin For Regulatory Breach

The Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) has shut eight hotels in Ilorin for violating regulations and lacking proper documentation.

The enforcement exercise, carried out on Saturday, followed several official notifications and warnings issued to the affected establishments.

It was led by the Head of Department for Hotels, Mr. Aminullahi Taiye AbdulRahman, who disclosed that the hoteliers were given ample time to regularize their operations but refused to do so.

“This action is not aimed at intimidating any business concern or individual,” Aina explained.

“It is about ensuring that hospitality operators adhere strictly to both local and international standards.

“A clean, safe, and healthy environment remains a top priority for the Kwara State government.”

Aina stressed that the enforcement was a preventive measure to protect residents and promote the state’s image as a safe destination for investors and tourists.

“We will not compromise when it comes to public health and environmental standards. Every operator has a duty to comply,” he added.

KWEPA reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with stakeholders in the hospitality industry to achieve sustainable development and environmental responsibility.

The agency also urged other hoteliers across the state to comply fully with environmental and operational regulations to avoid similar sanctions.

“The message is clear,” comply or face the law. The wellbeing of our people and the future of our state cannot be traded for negligence.”
