Kompany weighs in on Sterling’s Chelsea exile

Kompany weighs in on Sterling’s Chelsea exile

Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has shared his thoughts on Chelsea’s treatment of Raheem Sterling, who has been excluded from the Blues’ first-team plans under Enzo Maresca.

The 30-year-old winger has been training away from the senior squad after failing to secure a transfer during the summer window.

Sterling, who spent last season on loan at Arsenal but did not earn a permanent move, will now remain at Stamford Bridge until at least January.

Kompany calls for turnaround

Speaking ahead of Bayern Munich’s Champions League clash against Chelsea at the Allianz Arena, Kompany reflected on Sterling’s situation with empathy.

The Belgian, who played alongside the England international at Manchester City for four seasons, admitted it was difficult to see his former teammate sidelined.

“It’s a tough one because on the one hand I have a lot of respect for Enzo [Maresca] and my colleagues at Chelsea. I understand it’s not easy to make a decision as a coach,” Kompany told reporters.

“On the other hand, Raheem is one of my former teammates and that bond always remains. The only thing I can hope, because he’s still at a good age, is that he can turn it around and show the whole world what his quality is.”

Maresca firm on squad plans

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has already made clear that Sterling, Axel Disasi, and David Datro Fofana are not part of his long-term vision for the club.

Sterling’s future remains uncertain, but Kompany remains hopeful the winger can rediscover the form that once made him one of the Premier League’s most dangerous attackers.

“I wish him all the best,” Kompany added. “Hopefully he can find a situation where everything fits for him.”
