Kogi Governor’s Father Laid to Rest



The Kogi State community gathered in solemn reverence today as Alhaji Ahmed Momohsani Ododo, the father of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, was laid to rest at his residence in Upogoro, Okene, following his passing on Monday, August 18, 2025, at the age of 83. 

The revered patriarch, widely respected for his devotion to family, faith, and community, was buried in accordance with Islamic rites, as confirmed by the Kogi State Government.

The funeral, marked by heartfelt prayers and tributes, saw an outpouring of condolences from across Nigeria. 

In a statement issued by the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, the government expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Alhaji Ahmed Momohsani Ododo as a man whose life embodied humility, piety, and service. 

“His Janazah was conducted, and he was laid to rest in line with Islamic traditions at his residence in Upogoro, Okene,” Fanwo noted, adding prayers for Allah (SWT) to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus. 

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led national figures in mourning, extending heartfelt condolences to Governor Ododo and his family. 

In a message delivered through his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the late Alhaji Ododo as a “respected community leader whose legacy is evident in the accomplishments of the children he nurtured.” He urged the Ododo family to find solace in their patriarch’s life of service to God and his steadfast moral and religious values. 

Lagos State Governor and Chairman of the South-West Governors Forum, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, also expressed his sympathies, emphasizing the late Ododo’s fulfilled life and positive impact on his generation. 

“The elderly and wise counsel of Alhaji Ahmed Momohsani Ododo will be sorely missed,” Sanwo-Olu said, praying for eternal rest for the deceased and strength for the bereaved family. 

 

Alhaji Ahmed Momohsani Ododo, who passed away in Abuja after a brief illness, leaves behind a legacy of discipline, dedication, and family values. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, including Governor Usman Ododo, who assumed office in January 2024 as the youngest governor in Nigeria at age 43.
