Mohammed Idris, minister of information and national
orientation, says the federal government will ensure that the perpetrators of
the attack on worshippers in Malumfashi LGA of Katsina state are brought to
justice.
On Tuesday morning, gunmen attacked worshippers observing
Fajr prayer in a mosque in the community, killing several people.
On Wednesday, Abdullahi Faskari, secretary to the Katsina
state government, confirmed that 32 people were killed during the attack.
In a statement on Friday, tthe minister described the
killings as “callous and barbaric”, adding that such acts of terror will not be
allowed to take root in the country.
“This wanton act of violence is not only an assault on the
people of Malumfashi but also on our shared humanity and values as a nation,”
Idris said.
He added that security forces are already on the trail of
the attackers, assuring that no stone will be left unturned until they are
apprehended and held accountable.
“Justice will be swift and decisive,” he said, noting that
the federal government has been recording successes in counter-terrorism
operations.
He recalled that the National Counter-Terrorism Centre
(NCTC) recently announced the arrest of top leaders of two terrorist groups,
including Mahmud al-Nigeri of the Mahmuda group and his deputy, Abu Abba,
alongside Mahmud Muhammad Usman (Abu Baraa) of the Ansaru group.
“These arrests, directed by President Tinubu, are proof that
those who shed innocent blood will find no hiding place in Nigeria,” Idris
added.
