
In an effort to find out the high prevalent of kidney disease, Yobe state government through Biomedical Research Training Center (BioRTC) of the state university has commenced samples taking targeting 2000 households across Damaturu and Gashua communities.
The research team includes physicians, renal nurses, laboratory scientists, geologists, as well as environmental sciencetists who were recently trained in the state, vested with the responsibility for the kidney disease sampling research.
Special Adviser to Governor Mai Mala Buni on science, research and innovation, Dr Mahmud Bukar Maina who led the research team revealed, after taking samples of blood and urine, the researchers will liase with United kingdom counterparts to address the root courses of the kidney disease affected communities.
Dr Mahamud applauded the efforts of the residents of Gashua communities for the support they offered to the researchers on the ongoing kidney disease research exercise.
He revealed that, “most of the households that were randomly selected in the two affected communities had given a total support for the researchers in carrying out their samples.”
Speaking to blueprint correspondent, Chairman Bade Local Government Area (LGA), Ibrahim Babagana said the LGA has suffered from kidney disease.
He stated that the communities have become so impressed by receiving the research team and that the emirates are going to give all the necessary supports to see that they have a good result at the elnd of the exercise.
