ABUJA – In a landmark diplomatic moment, Nigerian diplomat, Dr Jonathan Ojadah, has been honored with Kenya’s prestigious National Hero of Peace Medal, a testament to his outstanding contributions to peace-building and international cooperation across Africa.
The ceremony, held in Nairobi, witnessed a historic joint presentation of the Medal of Honour by President William Ruto of Kenya and President Bassirou Diomaye Faye of Senegal — symbolising a pan-African acknowledgment of Ojadah’s enduring efforts toward continental unity, conflict resolution, and diplomacy.
Ojadah, the Global President of UNIPGC, received the honor of Shujah (Hero) in the Peace Building category at the Mashujaa Day celebration in Kenya.
The prestigious honor recognised his outstanding contributions to advancing peace, good governance, and sustainable development across Africa.
Mashujaa Day, a national public holiday in Kenya, is celebrated annually on October 20th to honor heroes and heroines who have made significant positive changes to society.
Dr. Ojadah’s honor as a hero of Peace is a testament to his dedication to promoting peace and stability, and his commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of people across the continent.
Upon Conferment of the Award which took place on Monday 20th October, 2025 in Kitui County , Dr. Ojadah said: “Today marks a truly significant moment as Kenya stands as a beacon of unity by bestowing upon me— a Nigerian— its prestigious National Heroes Award in the category of Sustainable Peace Building Heroes.
“With utmost humility, I am deeply honored and give all glory to God for this recognition.
“It is particularly humbling to be the only foreign recipient among 184 distinguished heroes honored today.
“I would also like to take this moment to express my heartfelt condolences to the family of Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga.
“I pray that God grants them the strength to bear this profound loss. I join the entire Kenyan nation, and indeed the whole of Africa, in mourning this great icon of democracy, whose life exemplified true statesmanship and unwavering commitment to the people.”
The event was graced by the President of Senegal, Prime Minister Of Mozambique and Dr. Ojadah was officially decorated with the Medal of honor by the President Of Kenya,William Ruto, alongside President Of Senegal.
This recognition is a significant milestone in Dr. Ojadah’s career, and a testament to his tireless efforts in promoting peace and development in Africa.
Former Nairobi Governor, Dr Mike Mbuvi Sonko, extended his congratulatory message to Ojadah on his award recognition, praising his dedication to advancing peace and good governance.
