Kebbi police neutralise three kidnappers, recover AK-47

The Kebbi State Police Command has neutralised three kidnappers along Tungargiwa/Saminaka road, Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State and recovered one AK-47 rifle with one magazine and seven live rounds of ammunition.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, stated this in a statement made available to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi.

According to him, “This remarkable achievement indicates the police intensified patrols around Shanga and adjoining communities are yielding positive results.

“On 24th August, 2025, at about 0230 hrs, intelligence received revealed that a gang of suspected kidnappers was sighted in the nearby forest along Tungargiwa/Saminaka road, planning to kidnap commuters plying the road.

“On receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer, Shanga, swiftly mobilised a combined team of policemen and vigilantes and rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, they engaged the suspected kidnappers in a fierce gun duel.

“As a result, three suspected kidnappers were neutralised, one AK-47 rifle, one magazine, and seven live ammunition were also recovered from them.

“In view of the above tremendous achievement, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M Sani, praised the DPO Shanga and his team for their swift and courageous response.

“He noted that the successful operation has demonstrated the Command’s determination to secure the state against violent crimes.

“He further appreciated the role played by the local communities for sharing the intelligence promptly, without which, the police operatives cannot succeed.”

The CP, according to the PPRO, reiterated that the police would intensify more patrols around Shanga and adjoining communities with a view to preventing incursions of criminal elements.

“CP Bello M Sani, however, reiterated the importance of sustaining collaboration between the police and members of the public.”

The police urged the public to be vigilant and continue to report any suspicious movement to the nearest police station or other security agencies, stressing that prevention of crimes remains the best strategy in safeguarding the lives and property of the good people of Kebbi State.
