Kebbi: New Emir of Zuru emerges


Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi state has approved the appointment of Alhaji Sanusi Mikail Sami, Sami Gomo the third, as the new Emir of Zuru.

Aged 58, Letter of formal appointment was presented to him on Thursday, at the Emir’s Palace in Zuru by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Garba Umar Dutsinmari, in company of the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi.

The appointment of Sanusi Sami followed the death of Maj-Gen. Sani Sami nine days ago, who was an auncle to the new Emir.

Governor Nasir Idris acted in accordance with the powers conferred on him by the Law on the appointment of Emirs and Chiefs, in adherence to due process after selection of three choices among contestants to the throne by the Kingmakers.

Before the public announcement, Governor Idris consulted widely, including input from the Emirs of Gwandu, Argungu and Yauri, who met and endorsed the appointment of the Emir by the Kingmakers.

The new Emir was a private businessman and philanthropist before his ascension to the Zuru Monarchy.

Addressing his subjects after receipt of the appointment letter, Emir Sanusi Sami, Gomo the third, thanked Governor Idris, for reposing confidence in him, promising to uphold the honour and integrity of the traditional institution with service to the people.
