Kebbi governor praises broadcast media on World Radio Day

As Nigeria joins the international community in celebrating World Radio Day, Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, has commended broadcast media organisations for enhancing public awareness on participation and the need for peaceful coexistence in Nigeria.

He observed that the significant impact made by radio and television stations in bridging the communication gap between the government and the people has continued to promote peace and stability in the nation’s democratic and socio-economic development.

Governor Idris, in a goodwill message by his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Alhaji Abdullahi Idris Zuru, to mark the commemoration of World Radio Day, noted that the media industry has provided a lot of opportunities for the general public.

According to him, “Governor Idris commended the media industry for providing ample opportunities for the democratically elected leaders to showcase their achievements and challenges in governance while, on the other hand, entertaining and allowing the public to express their satisfaction or otherwise on the performance of the leaders.

“Comrade Kauran Gwandu further explained that although he strongly believed in freedom of speech, he advised that the policy of fair hearing must strictly be adhered to.

“Compliance will prevent a possible misuse through mischievous and unsubstantiated allegations against the leaders for politically motivated reasons.”

The governor, according to Zuru, reiterated his administration’s commitment to repositioning the state-owned media organisations for enhanced efficiency and productivity, which has already begun with the provision of state-of-the-art equipment for the Kebbi Radio and Television stations.

In a related development, Comrade Governor Nasir Idris has congratulated the newly elected leadership of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Kebbi State Chapter.

In a congratulatory message, Governor Idris assured the new leadership and, indeed, the working journalists in the state of his administration’s support towards ensuring a meaningful impact on society through adequate publicity for the implementation of the administration’s policies and programmes.
