Kauran Bauchi: A beacon of religious tolerance

Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi state has demonstrated exceptional religious tolerance by sponsoring over 176 Christians to Jerusalem this year. This laudable gesture showcases the governor’s commitment to promoting interfaith harmony and understanding in the state. By supporting Christian pilgrims, the governor is fostering a sense of inclusivity and respect for all religions, which is essential for building a peaceful and cohesive society.

This act of sponsorship is a testament to the governor’s leadership style, which prioritises the well-being and spiritual growth of all citizens, regardless of their faith. It’s worth noting that Bauchi state has a history of supporting Christian pilgrimages. The 2024 Bauchi state pilgrimage to Jordan and Israel was an 11-day spiritual journey for 176 pilgrims. The group visited numerous sacred sites, including Mount Nebo, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and the Garden Tomb. The pilgrims were excited to embark on this journey together. Speaking at the farewell ceremony held at the Government House Banquet hall, the Team Leader Engr Joshua Titus Sanga expressed his gratitude to Governor Bala Mohammed for sponsoring the pilgrimage.

The pilgrimage was fully sponsored by the Bauchi state government, led by Governor Bala Mohammed, who generously gifted each pilgrim $100 in addition to their Daily Travel Allowance. This act of kindness was deeply appreciated by the pilgrims. The governor’s support made the pilgrimage possible for many participants.

The journey took the pilgrims to historic sites in Jordan, including Jacob River, Tel Mar Elias, and Mount Nebo. In Israel, they visited the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Via Dolorosa, and the Garden Tomb. Each site held deep spiritual significance, enriching the pilgrims’ faith. The pilgrims were moved by the historic significance.

The pilgrimage was not without challenges, including delays at border crossings and health concerns. However, the group persevered, supported by their faith and the guidance of our leader and support of the governor, it was a success. The journey fostered unity, reflection, and religious enlightenment among the participants. The challenges were overcome through teamwork and determination.

Since becoming governor, Bala Mohammed has consistently demonstrated his support for the Christian community in Bauchi state. This is in addition to providing all finances needed for the completion of the State Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Secretariat, which has remained abandoned for many years.

The Governor Mohammed administration has also taken steps to address the needs and concerns of Christian communities, earning him recognition and appreciation from different Christian groups, including YOWICAN, the youth branch of CAN. One notable aspect of the pilgrimage was the exemplary behavior of the Christian pilgrims, who conducted themselves in a peaceful and orderly manner throughout the exercise. Their coordination and discipline were truly commendable.

The participants in the pilgrimage included notable figures such as Rev. Abraham Dimis, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Bauchi, Mr. Ibrahim Mohammed Gwallang, Hon. Hassana Arkila, a prominent government official, SSA Christian Affairs Pas Zakka Magaji, Hon Musa Nakwada, Surveyor Y.U Yashi, Elder Simon Balewa, Elder Mandabs Haruna, Prof Yalams, Dr Jacob Dunga, Mr Christopher Chukwu, and representatives from the six geographical regions of the country to foster national integration.

The delegation took the opportunity to offer heartfelt prayers for the Governor, Bala Mohammed, asking for God’s guidance, wisdom, protection, and divine favor as he leads Bauchi State effectively always. They also prayed for the state, seeking peace, prosperity, unity, harmony, and understanding among its citizens always.

Furthermore, the delegation prayed for Nigeria as a whole, asking for God’s intervention in the country’s challenges and for His blessings upon its leaders and people always. They prayed for peace, stability, progress, and unity that Nigeria may become a beacon of hope and prosperity for generations to come always.
