Katsina reinforces security amid killing of 13 worshipers in mosque

The Katsina State Government has mobilised additional security forces to Malumfashi Local Government Area following a deadly attack by bandits that left 13 worshipers dead during morning prayers at a mosque in Unguwan Mantau community.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, was confirmed by Nasir Mu’azu, the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, who described it as a reprisal attack by criminal elements.

According to Mu’azu, the bandits stormed the mosque during the Fajr prayers, shooting sporadically at the worshipers.

He explained that the assault was in retaliation for an earlier ambush staged by community members against the bandits two days prior, during which several bandits were killed, victims kidnapped from Ruwan Sanyi village were rescued, and three motorcycles and two AK-47 rifles were recovered.

“The security agencies are now on the ground in Unguwan Mantau to restore normalcy. Air component commanders of the Forward Operating Base, Nigerian Army, and the Nigerian Police Force have been deployed to clear the bandits. During the rainy season, these criminal elements often hide under crops to perpetrate their evil acts, but we are determined to bring them to justice,” Mu’azu said.

He added that the State Government commended the bravery of the local community while assuring residents of sustained support and stronger community-based security initiatives.

“As Government, we salute the gallantry of the people of Unguwan Mantau, and we are committed to fighting these bandits and ensuring safety across our communities. We extend heartfelt condolences to the families affected and reaffirm our determination to eliminate these criminal elements.

“The State Government extends heartfelt condolences to the families affected and reaffirms its unwavering support for community-based security initiatives while working to eliminate criminal elements from the region,” the Commissioner stated.
