Katsina Police Smash Arms Smuggling Ring, Arrest Gun Runners with 1,295 Ammunition



At 4:35 AM on September 1, 2025, Katsina State Police Command’s Ingawa Division intercepted a major arms smuggling operation along the Ingawa-Karkarku village route. 

Officers arrested two suspects, Abdulsalam Muhammad (25) and Aminu Mamman (23), both from Baure Village in Safana LGA, driving a blue Volkswagen Golf (Registration: RSH 528 BY ABJ).

The police recovered a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG, breach number Z8826), 1,063 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm AK-47 ammunition, and 232 rounds of 7.62 x 69mm PKT ammunition. 

Investigations revealed the weapons were being transported from Hadejia, Jigawa State, to Safana LGA.Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, confirmed the arrests, highlighting the operation as a significant blow to criminal networks threatening Katsina’s security. 

“This operation demonstrates Katsina State Government unwavering commitment to disrupting criminal supply chains before they can harm innocent citizens,” the statement read. 

 

“Investigation has commenced to uncover the weapons’ ultimate destination, identify other members of the criminal network, and trace the source of the sophisticated arsenal.

 

“The Katsina State Government commends the exceptional vigilance and professionalism of the Police Command and reaffirms its commitment to providing all necessary support to security agencies in their relentless fight against criminality.”
