Katsina govt allocates ₦20m to each LGA for graveyard renovation

The Katsina State Government has approved the sum of ₦20 million for each Local Government Area in the state to renovate graveyards.

Governor Dikko Radda announced the initiative on Thursday in Katsina while receiving royal fathers from the Katsina and Daura Emirates. He explained that the project is not only a service to the people but also a way of seeking Allah’s blessings for the state.

In addition, the governor unveiled a new welfare package targeted at traditional rulers and religious leaders. According to him, under a new law passed by the State House of Assembly, all District Heads will now earn salaries not less than Grade Level 16.

He also disclosed that 6,652 Ward Heads across the state will receive monthly allowances, while over 3,000 Imams and their deputies from Friday Mosques will benefit from stipends. Mosque sweepers under the Izala and Darika sects in all 34 LGAs will also be included in the welfare package.

Governor Radda further emphasised that his administration remains focused on tackling insecurity. He revealed that over 1,500 youths have been trained, fully equipped, and deployed to support security operations in the state. He urged traditional rulers and community leaders to raise awareness within their communities, stressing that security is a shared responsibility.

During the visit, the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruq-Umar, represented by the District Head of Baure, Alhaji Daha Umar-Farouq, expressed solidarity with the governor following his recent car accident in Daura.

The Wazirin Katsina, Senator Ibrahim Ida, representing the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir-Usman, commended the governor’s reforms, noting that they have restored dignity to traditional institutions and enhanced their role in governance. He assured that the Emirate Council would continue to support the state government through prayers and cooperation to foster peace and unity.
