The Katsina State Government has revoked the operating licenses of all private and community schools in the state with effect from August 13, 2025.
The decision was contained in a circular issued on Saturday, by spokesperson for the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Malam Sani Danjuma, and signed by Commissioner Hajiya Zainab Musa-Musawa.
According to the circular, the move is part of government efforts to strengthen quality assurance and standardization in the education sector.

“The withdrawal of licenses is aimed at ensuring that schools operate in line with approved standards and provide quality education to students,” Danjuma said.
He further stressed that the government was not shutting down education but ensuring reforms.
“This decision is to sanitize the system. Our children deserve schools that meet the proper requirements, not just profit-driven centers,” he explained.
The circular also outlined a review of fees for license application, registration, and annual renewal.
It directed all owners of affected schools to apply for fresh licenses by submitting proof of payment to the ministry on or before September 30, 2025.
School operators were also warned against arbitrary tuition hikes.
“No school should increase tuition or other charges without express government approval,” the statement emphasized.
The ministry assured that further guidelines would soon be released, including categorization of schools and the revised fee structure.
“We are committed to making Katsina’s education system stronger, more affordable, and more credible,” Danjuma added.
