The Kano State Police Command has alerted the public to possible plans by some groups and individuals to unleash terror in public places over the lingering Emirship tussle.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Usaini Gumel, raised the alarm while briefing newsmen on Sunday.

According to him, credible intelligence suggests that some individuals plan to stage protests which could potentially lead to violent clashes.

The Commissioner identified areas of concern to include- the state House of Assembly Complex, Kofar Nasarawa, Iyaka Road, Kofar Naisa, Brigade, Airport Road, Janbulo and Sani Mainenge areas.

“We have received credible information about miscreants trying to unleash terror at locations, particularly the House of Assembly and other key places within the state. It has been verified by so many sources.

“Anybody who wants to test the ground, the security has the capacity to deal with the miscreants. We have perfected plans to embark on serious patrols and detection on locations where we are informed the miscreants are hiding,” he stated.

DAILY POST reports that Kano State has been engulfed with a series of protests in the past few days.

Supporters of Aminu Bayero, the dethroned Emir of Kano on Sunday staged protests in the five emirates, including Rano, Bichi, Karaye, Kano and Gaya.

Bayero was deposed by Governor Abba Yusuf after signing a new law that repealed the Emirate Council Law 2019.

The 2019 legislation balkanised the Kano emirate into five jurisdictions and provided grounds for the dethronement of Muhammadu Sanusi in 2020.

The governor, however, sacked the Emirs on Thursday and reinstated Sanusi, leading to unrest in some parts of the state.
