Kano to construct 130 new schools through AGILE project – Commissioner

The Kano state government weekend said it will construct 130 new schools in the state through Adolescent Girls Initiative Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project.

The Commissioner of Education, Dr Gwani Ali Haruna Makoda, stated this at the Kano State Education Sector Joint Steering Committee meeting held in Kaduna from Saturday 22nd – Sunday 23rd February, 2025.

Makoda said the construction consists of 75 Junior Secondary School and 55 Senior Secondary Schools across the state. 

The commissioner added that the state government has introduced digital literacy programmes through AGILE and IDEAS projects. 

He lamented how the previous administration in the state abandoned education sub sector with dilapidated infrastructure, overcrowded classrooms and inadequate teachers. 

In his address, the permanent secretary, Ministry of Education, Malam Baffa Bashir, said the meeting was to review Kano state’s current key education priorities (2025-2026) and align them with strategic objectives. 

The permanent secretary hinted that the meeting will also deliberate on the Kano Recovery Plan, 14-points education reform agenda and share insights on the Kano Education Strategic Plan (ESP), Mutual Accountability Framework Curriculum Reform and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) roadmap 2025-20220.

A statement issued by communication officer of AGILE, Nasiru Yusuf Ibrahim said the executive chairman of State Universal Basic Education ((SUBEB), Alhaji Yusuf Kabir on behalf of all parastatals under the ministry of education assured their maximum support and cooperation to the commissioner of education.
