Kano takes over 324 housing units as Gov Yusuf clears N4.5bn liability – Daily Trust

The Kano State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has successfully completed the takeover of 324 housing units located in Kwankwasiyya, Amana, and Bandirawo Cities from the Pension Funds Trustee and handed them over to the Kano State Housing Corporation (KSHC) for onward management and sale to interested buyers.

The move follows the governor’s decisive action to settle all outstanding pension liabilities tied to the estates, amounting to ₦4.5 billion (inclusive of 10% profit to the Pension Funds Trustees, totaling ₦400 million). The payment was made through the Kano State Housing Corporation, thereby unlocking the housing units for proper utilization, while ensuring that pensioners’ entitlements were fully protected.

Speaking during the official handover, the Managing Director of the Housing Corporation, Alh. Abdullahi Rabiu, emphasized that the Corporation is committed to providing and maintaining habitable housing units for Kano’s rapidly growing population.

He described the development as a major turning point in the state’s housing delivery framework.

Chairman of the Pension Funds Trustee, Alh. Habu Mohammad Fagge, formally handed over the houses to the Managing Director of the Kano State Housing Corporation.

He noted that the transfer was made possible after Governor Yusuf’s administration cleared the backlog of pension funds.

He expressed optimism that the Housing Corporation would ensure effective management of the estates and restore them to their intended purpose.

In a statement by Governor Yusuf’s Special Adviser on information Ibrahim Adam said the Kano State Government assures the public that the Housing Corporation will commence the transparent process of disposing the units to qualified buyers, thereby recouping funds for the state and strengthening confidence in government’s accountability and reforms.
