The Kano State Government is on the verge of transforming payroll administration across its 44 local government areas with the rollout of a state-of-the-art Staff and Payroll Software aimed at eradicating ghost workers and boosting transparency.

Announced at the conclusion of a four-day capacity-building training for personnel from the State Primary Health Care Management Board (SPHCMB), State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), and the Ministry for Local Government, the system integrates biometric verification to ensure accurate, timely salary disbursements and eliminate fraudulent entries.

Alhaji Mohammed Tajo Othman, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, hailed the initiative as a cornerstone of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s tech-driven governance agenda.

“This software will enhance transparency, accuracy, and efficiency while significantly improving service delivery in our local councils,” he declared.

Key features include automated retirement notifications issued three months in advance, enabling seamless transitions for civil servants.

The Ministry also plans entrepreneurship training for retirees to foster self-reliance post-service.Othman urged trainees to master the platform, stressing computer literacy as vital for sustainability.

“You are the pioneers of this reform. Your grasp of the system will determine its success,” he told participants.

The launch signals Kano’s aggressive push toward digital governance, with officials optimistic that the biometric-backed payroll will curb leakages and restore public trust in local government finances.
