Kano Police Nab Suspected Kidnapper Linked To Village Head Abduction


The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a man suspected of kidnapping and armed robbery in connection with the abduction of the Village Head of Garun Babba, Alhaji Abdulmumini Mudi Zakari.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed that operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad apprehended 27-year-old Usman Lawan Baba, also known as “Yellow,” on October 2, 2025, in Dakatsalle, Zango Ranka, Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State.

The police noted that Baba had been wanted in relation to the August 9, 2023, kidnapping and armed robbery incident during which the village head was abducted and robbed of ₦2.75 million, a Tecno Kevo 4 phone, and a wristwatch.

During questioning, Baba reportedly admitted his involvement in the crime and revealed that he received ₦6,000 as his share of the loot. He also named several accomplices, some of whom have already been neutralized by security forces.

Among those identified were Bello Kici-Kici of Falgore Village, Doguwa LGA, who was killed in Jigawa State during a police operation with an AK-47 rifle recovered; Mallam Sale of Gezawa LGA, neutralized during an armed robbery intervention in Gezawa; and Ruwa Shehu of Gafan Village, Bebeji LGA, currently serving a sentence for a kidnapping-related offense.

Other suspects, including Ibrahim Gwanja, Sule Naye, and an unidentified individual, remain under active investigation, the statement added.

The police confirmed that Baba will face court proceedings once investigations are concluded.

CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, Kano State Commissioner of Police, commended the Anti-Kidnapping Squad for their diligence and lauded the public for their ongoing support in enhancing security operations.
