Kano police arrest suspect linked to Village Head’s abduction – Daily Trust


The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of a suspected kidnapper and armed robber in connection with the abduction of the Village Head of Garun Babba, Alhaji Abdulmumini Mudi Zakari.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad apprehended a 27-year-old Usman Lawan Baba, popularly known as “Yellow,” on October 2, 2025, in Dakatsalle, Zango Ranka, Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State.

The statement said the suspect was declared wanted in connection with the August 9, 2023 kidnapping and robbery during which a village head was abducted and dispossessed of ₦2.75 million, a Tecno Kevo 4 handset, and a wristwatch.

The police operatives later rescued the traditional ruler after intercepting the gang’s escape attempt.

During interrogation, Baba confessed to participating in the crime and admitted to receiving ₦6,000 as his share of the stolen proceeds. He also named several accomplices, some of whom have already met their fate in encounters with security agencies.

Among those identified were:

Bello Kici-Kici of Falgore Village, Doguwa LGA, who was killed by police during a kidnapping operation in Jigawa State, with an AK-47 rifle recovered.

Mallam Sale of Gezawa LGA, who was neutralized by police during an armed robbery operation in Gezawa.

Ruwa Shehu of Gafan Village, Bebeji LGA, currently serving a sentence in a correctional facility for a kidnapping-related offense.

Others, including Ibrahim Gwanja, Sule Naye, and an unidentified individual, are said to be still under investigation.

The Police Command confirmed that the suspect will be arraigned in court after the completion of investigations.

The statement further added that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the Anti-Kidnapping Squad for their perseverance and lauded the cooperation of the public in supporting security operations.
