Kano patent medicine dealers get alternative market

Members of the National Association of Patent and Proprietary Medicine Dealers (NAPPMED) in Kano have said they have been allocated an alternative marketplace to continue their business.

NAPPMED chairman, Musbahu Yahaya Khalid, disclosed this to newsmen during an inspection tour of the Dalar Gyada Market in Dala Local Government Area of the state approved by the state government.

On February 17, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), in collaboration with the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN), conducted a raid and sealed over 1,321 patent medicine stores in the Sabon Gari open market in Kano.

The action followed a Federal High Court order for drug dealers to relocate to the Coordinated Wholesale Centre at Dangwauro village along Kano-Zaria road.

While some medicine dealers had already complied with the relocation order to Dangwaro, others were hesitant. However, Khalid expressed satisfaction with the new alternative market, emphasising that it offers better conditions compared to Dangwaro.

He noted that the rent for shops is more affordable, and the quality and quantity of shops available can accommodate all NAPPMED members.
