The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 30-year-old man, Mutawakilu Ibrahim, who allegedly stabbed his grandparents to death following a heated quarrel reportedly triggered by a disagreement over a plate of food.
According to the Nigerian Tribune, police authorities stated that the suspect was allegedly under the influence of hard drugs during the tragic incident, which took place around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Kofar Dawanau Quarters in Kano.
The victims, identified as 75-year-old Muhammad Dansokoto and 65-year-old Hadiza Tasidi, were attacked with a knife and sustained multiple deep wounds on different parts of their bodies. Eyewitnesses immediately raised an alarm, leading to the swift arrival of law enforcement officers.

Both victims were rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital for emergency treatment but were pronounced dead on arrival. Their remains were later released to family members for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Confirming the development, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, directed that the case be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for a detailed investigation.
Police sources disclosed that Ibrahim has been charged with culpable homicide and will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Describing the incident as “deeply disturbing,” authorities raised concerns about the rising cases of violent crimes linked to drug abuse across the state. The police further urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
