Kano State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has taken disciplinary action against two staff members of the Upper Shari’a Court, Gwarzo, over corrupt practices.
The decision was reached during the 79th meeting of the Commission, chaired by Justice Dije Abdu Aboki, Chief Judge of Kano State.
According to a statement by Judiciary Spokesperson Baba Jibo Ibrahim, Hudu Idris, a registrar at the court, was demoted by one grade level and placed on compulsory retirement for accepting bribes. Additionally, the contract appointment of Abba Bala Gwarzo, a casual watchman, was terminated with immediate effect.
“Both individuals admitted to corrupt practices amounting to N214,000 during the investigation, the Commission, in line with its commitment to maintaining judicial integrity, adopted the JPCC’s recommendations and took these measures,” the statement revealed.
Meanwhile, the Commission also addressed the suspension of Bilya Abdullahi, Auwalu Ibrahim Khalil, and Ismaila Garba, who had been accused of forging a court reversal order. After a police investigation and a legal review by the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), it was determined that there was insufficient evidence to prosecute them.
Their suspension was lifted, but Bilya Abdullahi was issued a stern warning to refrain from unethical practices.
The Judicial Service Commission restated its firm opposition to corruption and unethical behavior, highlighting its commitment to preserving public trust in the justice system.
