Kano IRS sets N100 billion revenue target for 2025

The Kano State Internal Revenue Service has set a revenue target of over N100 billion for the 2025 financial year.

Executive Chairman of the Service. Zaid Abubakar stated this Wednesday at the KIRS Annual Performance Review 2024 and Strategic Planning for 2025.

He admitted that their own revenue target was slightly higher than the N75 billion handed over them by the state government.

He expressed optimism that the State would in the coming years join the states annuslly generating the N300 billion and above as revenue.

He hinged his optimism on the grounds that Kano is a center of commerce with five local and international markets as well as a leading agricultural hub in the country

He also disclosed that the state is set to review all the revenue generation laws adding that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has granted leave for the exercise to take place before the end of the first quarter of this year.

“We have to rewrite the laws because approval has been given by His Excellency Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf which we hope to do before the end of first quarter of this year,” he said.

He said reviewing the tax laws was necessary to enhance overall revenue generation in the state as the existing tax laws were obsolete and ineffective.

The Special Adviser ti the Governor on Revenue , Ibrahim Barde urged the service to address some of challenges bedeviling revenue generation in the state.

He said the state government is considering the possibility of introducing Agricultural produce revenue End.
